Wisin and Yandel make history once again

The Puerto Rican duo’s latest album Los Vaqueros: El Regreso has entered the Billboard 200.

Wisin and Yandel have come along way since the early 2000s and they have now become the most successful duo in the reggaeton genre. According to PRNewswire, in the past five years, Wisin & Yandel have accumulated an impressive record-breaking 11 Platinum Album Awards in the United States as well as 10 Platinum Album Awards and 8 Gold Album Awards across Latin America. They have also become the Latin leaders of the digital age, having surpassed 10 million digital music downloads world-wide, acquired more than 160 million "hits" on YouTube and becoming the #1 Latin Artist on MySpace and the #1 Latin Artist on Facebook (with more than five million fans).

Their lyrics sure have changed but for a greater purpose and they now have had two of their albums in the Billboard 200, surpassing other popular Latin artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Luis Miguel and Maná, who have each reached this milestone with just one of their Spanish albums according to Grein in Yahoo's Music Blog.

Los Vaqueros: El Regreso is now the top Latin album with over 271,000 copies sold worldwide (30,000 of them in the US according to billboard.com) and is also the duo’s eighth record. It includes songs that feature international artists such as T-Pain and 50 Cent in the song “No dejemos que se apague” and collaborations from fellow reggaeton artists like Cosculluela, Tego Calderón, Tito el Bambino, Jowell & Randy, Franco El Gorila and Alexis & Fido

.

According to their biography, Wisin and Yandel started out with vulgar lyrics but as the reggaeton genre kept growing, so did the quality of their music along with their now more mature and seductive lyrics. Since their fanbase demographic has increased over the last few years thanks to collaborations with artists like R-Kelly, 50 Cent, Akon, Aventura, Enrique Iglesias and David Bisbal, they now have a larger responsibility as artists to keep in mind the tone of the lyrics of their songs. So far they have been able to do this without loosing their edge

.

“Sometimes you need to do negative things so you can later understand that you have to grow up” Wisin reflected on a recent interview in Puerto Rico.“In the past, we wrote very strong songs, our lyrics weren’t right, but now we understand that going through all the critics was part of our development process”

Some of the popular reggaeton duo’s songs like “Rákata," “Paleta'' and “Callejero, callejero'' reflect their street theme as well as their interested in women, which has always been Wisin an Yandel’s trademark since their initial days.

Wisin and Yandel recently recorded an a capella song with pop singer Ricky Martin for his new album, which should surprise their fans and they also have a world tour coming up this summer that begins in Mexico and in the United States.

With their latest singles "Zun zun rompiendo caderas" and "No dejemos que se apague," Wisin and Yandel are moving their way up the international music charts as seen in the Billboard Latin Charts and continue to make history singing only in Spanish, while representing all the Latin artists all over the world.
